Alegria started as more of a vegan deli and evolved into more of a restaurant or coffee shop. Other then the food they serve, they are selling vegan cheese and other boxes to take home. They gathered a collection of small, vegan and quality producers under one roof. The food serving started as only tasting in the store, people just didn’t want to wait to get home. The Demand forced them to add tables, chairs and employ Waiters.
My wife loves this place, she has been here more then she can count. At first just to buy vegan cheese as a Vegan Deli and then for breakfast or lunch with friends, But never with me. So this time she asked me to join her and her brother before his trip to Japan. I accepted the challenge.
We love to share food, Order to the table and everyone just try everything. This way no one gets a dish he doesn’t like so much. Most of the time if one of us doesn’t like a dish another one likes it.
Vegan Deli Alegria Empress salad (Ceaser) – Arabian lettuce hearts wrapped in rich Caesar dressing from almonds and homemAioli, purple onion rings, capers, croutons, chives and roasted tofu strips.
After being a little skeptic when my wife told me we should take the Empress salad. I can say its definitely The most recommended curse from all that we took.
It sounds so simple and basically looks like a pile of lettuce, yet it’s so tasty and deep in flavors.
Vegan Deli Alegria Smoked sliders – smoked mini-burgers, made of black lentils, burnt eggplant, cranberries, chipotle and shitake. Served on a Maggie Tomato and Cashew cheese – homemade pickled Peppers.
Unfortunately, I don’t like cheese and even something that tastes like cheese, So after tasting the cheese I scooped it out and tried it without it. I must say it had something missing so I can’t recommend it my self but the others loved it. I can say that the mini burgers were smoky as promised and had a nice texture and flavors, Still, something was missing… O well, the cheese that I just scooped 🙂
Vegan Deli Alegria Neptune fingers – tofu in sea marinade coated with seaweed and parmesan Served on tiny scorched potatoes (we got Polenta instead), Rocket and sharp Aioli mustard.
This was a very good dish, the tofu was crispy from the outside and tender, almost melting from the inside. I couldn’t notice a very strong sea flavor that I expected. But my wife how hate sea flavors enjoyed it too.
Vegan Deli Alegria Stew of the day (White beans, celery, root vegetables and more) on polenta
A very comforting dish with some unique flavors. very simple and tasty stew that we just licked our fingers. The polenta was served on top.
